Our team of experienced Psychologists, Counsellors and Psychotherapists provide specialist psychological assessments and therapies for anyone experiencing difficulties in a range of mental health conditions e.g. Autism, ADHD, depression/anxiety, Trauma, PTSD, Anger management, relationship difficulties, cognitive difficulties, learning disabilities.
When complex difficulties are present, an in-depth assessment and a detailed written report is required to inform family members and professionals and the client. This assessment is different from the shorter pre-therapy assessments and may not lead to a written report.
Such assessments will be provided for a wide range of complex presentations (e.g. complex emotional / interpersonal difficulties, challenging behaviour, cognitive difficulties, complex trauma and adoption-related difficulties), developmental disorder or learning difficulty is suspected and thorough diagnostic assessment is required (e.g. Autistic Spectrum Disorders, ADHD).
Depending on if the client is a child or adult, the nature and duration of the assessment will vary. Various aspects of a person’s functioning such as emotional well-being, social functioning, behaviour, adaptive skills, personality and cognitive capabilities are usually assessed.
A combination of assessment techniques, over several sessions include clinical interview, psychometric testing. For children behavioural or play-based assessments will be used.
If those with ASD are not properly understood and supported, they can cause significant problems socially and emotionally and they can hamper educational or occupational achievement The ASD assessment is aimed at helping children or adults who are showing possible signs of an ASD to help them being understood and getting the support they need. The symptoms of ASD can overlap with other developmental conditions such as ADHD, as well as emotional difficulties such as anxiety.
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) can cause a range of difficulties to everyday life. This may range from, having a short attention span, problems with organisation, forgetful, impulsive, easily distractible, hyperactive, excessive talking, and having difficulties sticking to one particular task.
Such problems can have a significant impact on everyday life, preventing individuals and lead to other psychological difficulties such as anxiety and depression. Overall, this will prevent their progress in educational or social settings.
Children or adults may develop strengths or weaknesses in learning areas which can often impact the ability to learn and achieve during one’s educational life. The assessments help to understand the provision and support needed to help the individual progress in their studies.
A sensory assessment done by the OT is to help children (5 years +) or adults who struggle with the processing of sensory information in their environment such as being sensitive to sound, touch, taste, light or smells, being uncoordinated and struggling with an awareness of space, struggling to process feelings.
Difficulty in processing sensory information can co-exist with certain conditions within childhood and adulthood including autism, trauma and attachment difficulties, developmental co-ordination disorder, dyspraxia, mental health difficulties and learning disabilities. A range of sensory approaches, as well as Ayres’ Sensory Integration Intervention can assess and address these sensory processing challenges to help people re-engage in their everyday activities.
We accept referrals from lawyers/solicitors and crime investigating agencies to carry out psychological assessment and prepare forensic psychology report for the court. Where necessary, we would act as an expert witnesses to give our professional opinion on matters relevant to the criminal justice system to facilitate judgement process either for the defence or for prosecution.
Psychological therapy services are aimed at adults, children and young people who are looking to improve their psychological well-being with the support of a specialist, trained, professional. Our psychologists and healthcare professionals will provide therapeutic support for a range of difficulties, including: Anxiety, phobias, OCD Low Mood / Depression, Low Self- Esteem, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Relationship or Interpersonal Difficulties, Eating disorder, Attachment difficulties and Behavioural difficulties.
In addition to our assessment and therapy services, psychological consultation and support services to family members and professionals facing issues with Behaviour Difficulties/Challenging Behaviour
Support is provided to help them understand the nature of a person’s difficulties by analysing, formulation and psycho-education through therapeutic parenting or Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans.
